We all know the old saying “it takes a community to raise a child”! We believe that it’s a similar process when it comes to helping children grow, learn and overcome physical, mental, social and emotional challenges. This approach is called holistic.
Wildflowers Children’s Therapy offers a unique holistic or multidisciplinary team including speech language pathology, psychology, occupational therapy, education, and music therapy! The first goal of therapy for your child is to determine what the problem is! Our clinicians can help identify and diagnose problems such as learning disabilities, speech and language delays, fine motor delays, visual perception problems, learning difficulties, sensory processing, social/emotional difficulties, eating problems, etc.
Many families come to us who have already received a diagnosis and are searching for help in the community. The advantage we have at Wildflowers is we provide a wide variety of key clinical treatment for children from birth to teens and we are not limited to a specific physical or mental disability.
Having team members from different key multi discipline enables parents to attend more than one treatment in the same clinic! No more running from one end of the city to the other!
Another advantage is that many of the Wildflower clinicians offer evening and evening appointments so it can actually fit into busy family schedules!
Additionally, many of the challenges that a child may be struggling with are complex and require more than one therapy! For example, many of our young children with Autism first come to the clinic because parents are concerned that their child is not speaking. However, there are often other problems like attention, behavior and sensory issues that are part of the problem but not as readily identified. In this case, the parent may not know what an Occupational Therapist does, but the other clinician does and can make recommendations and referral to another discipline!
Co-treatment sessions is also a valuable and unique service which Wildflower’s therapists offer. Treatment sessions are often more productive when two therapists are working together on joint goals with the child.
Each discipline offers a unique set of skills that can provide further insight into the problem and therapeutic treatment options. There is always overlap in treatment but each offers valuable support to overcome problems. Team collaboration enables your child’s therapies to be more consistent, mindful and targeted!
Our clinicians are available to consult in the home, daycare, school and other settings upon request. This ensures that treatment is meaningful and consistent with child and parent goals.
There are very few clinicians who would prefer to work in isolation. Having the opportunity to consult and collaborate on behalf of our clients and families is priceless and invaluable. We know that our Wildflowers families find this multidisciplinary approach helps for them to see the rainbows after the storm. We hope that you will also give us the privilege of helping you and your child with our team approach!
