Being Kind to YOU!

Being Kind to YOU!

Are you kind to yourself? For many of us, being kind and compassionate towards others is easier than being kind and understanding towards ourselves. We are our harshest critic and although this may mean increased perseverance and commitment, this may also lead to unrealistic expectations and burn-out. Those of us who practice self-compassion have improved resilience, suffer less depression and anxiety, and are more accepting of ourselves. When you notice the negative self-critical voice inflicting blame and judgement, practice self-compassion by asking yourself some of these questions:

What specific things can you do/say to yourself to show kindness?

Can you think of a time when you have been kind to yourself?

How do you support a friend that is suffering?

Is it okay to be going through a difficult time?

The next time you are experiencing a difficult time pay attention to your inner voice, is it critical or self-compassionate? How can you show kindness to yourself in this moment? Take a break, tell yourself it is okay if the moment is painful or hard, and brainstorm what you can do to take care of yourself in that moment.
