The ART of Zentangle Drawing

You have probably seen zentangles in adult colouring books. They are drawings that are based around intricate, abstract patterns. Typically they are not planned out, but instead allow for patterns to emerge. They are fun to colour, but drawing zentangles has many benefits.

Some of the benefits to zentangling include:

  • Reduces stress
  • Helps with fine motor skills
  • Enhances focus
  • Improves relaxation
  • Enhances moment-to-moment awareness (similar to mindfulness)
  • Cultivates creativity

Zentangles are good for children and adults who like to engage in artistic hobbies, or just enjoy doodling. If you are new to zentangling there are many examples of different patterns online when you google zentangles.  Scroll down to see my favourite website.

What do I need to start?

  • A piece of white paper
  • A pencil
  • A black pen (a fine tipped sharpie works well)
  • A comfortable place to draw

Learning a new hobby can bring us joy and happiness. This is a simple, low cost way to enhance your creativity and bring some relaxation into your life!
