Special Interests: Single-incident & Complex Trauma, PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Injuries (PTSIs), Operational/Organizational/Occupational Stress Injuries (OSIs), Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, Critical Incident Stress, anxiety, phobias, depression, addictions, increased reactivity, mood disorders, sleep disturbances, grief/loss, suicidal ideation.
Therapies Used: Michelle uses EMDR as a complete psychotherapeutic modality. Maintaining the integrity of the model, she integrates elements of Guided Imagery, Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Attachment-based, Somatic, & Ego State Therapies into the first two phases. Michelle also supports clients using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Using a trauma-focused, person-centred, anti-oppressive approach, Michelle’s passion is to support you “where you are at”. Her aim is to increase recovery, promote resilience, and create space for transformative healing.
Michelle has 31 years of experience providing services to adults, adolescents, and children. She has worked extensively with public safety personnel and occupational groups who have exposure to potentially psychologically traumatic events, including but not limited to critical incident stress, vicarious trauma, operational stress, and post-traumatic stress injuries. Her lengthy experience working within a public safety occupational cohort informs her intention and passion to continue to develop this specialty area of practice.
As a therapist, Michelle has experience working with public safety personnel/first responders who have been diagnosed with PTSD, or who have experienced PTSIs and OSIs. She has provided support to partners/spouses of public safety personnel.
